caviar/jam spreader
€25.00Price
Caviar (or jam) spreader, Europe, late 1800 – early 1900.
Made entirely from mother-of-pearl, cut from a single shell layer and hand-shaped. The surface displays the material's natural iridescence, with colour shifts from white to golden. The absence of metal is a period-specific technical choice (metal was known to alter the flavour of caviar).
